Private Home Wedding: Emily & Jason

Just a year ago today, the weather was gorgeous at Emily’s parents home in Connecticut, setting the perfect day for Emily & Jason’s private home wedding.  We are thrilled to share these photos with you on their first anniversary and relive such an amazing day.

Emily & Jason are wedding professionals themselves, owners and photographers of Kan Photography. So, when they asked us to plan their big day, we were honored. They came to Whim just about 3 months before their wedding, and knew exactly how they wanted the day to feel. But with the short time frame and added logistics of a backyard wedding, they knew they needed a planner. Working with them was a dream and we loved getting to know them better! Emily and Jason are travelers and foodies, so they wanted to treat their guests well, with a carefully curated menu and delicious drinks inspired by their travels. They hired the fantastic chefs from Culinary Breakdown, who created a family style menu guests raved about, complete with ceviche, gazpacho, skirt steak and strawberry shortcake. Not to mention, the sangria and lemon Sgroppino were flowing at the bar! Emily adores peonies, so her friend and bridesmaid from Rouvalis Flowers made the bouquets, while Whim created the centerpieces. The property was perfect for their wedding, with a ceremony in the garden, a beautiful Sperry tent in the front yard for dinner, lawn games and drinks in the orchard, and smores under the stars.  And last but certainly not least, their friend and amazing wedding photographer Katie Noble captured the day and all of it’s joy! Happy Anniversary Emily & Jason!! Love you guys!!  xoxox – Whim

Boston Fall Wedding at Alden Castle: Laura & Trevor

It’s true, it is not even summer before we start thinking about Boston fall weddings. But honestly, how could we not think about cozy autumn New England weekends when we look back at Laura & Trevor’s wedding last November at Alden Castle?

Laura & Trevor’s elegant wedding was one of our favorites ways to end our floral season. For florals, Laura leaned toward rustic greens, deep reds and purples to mesh with the bridesmaids kelly green dresses (and her adorable Irish heritage!), rather than traditional fall oranges. She also had a big time love for DIY elements, so she arranged the centerpieces herself with florals we provided, and our team made the bouquets and bouts. Moira used seasonal florals including ranunculus, calla lilies, garden roses, seeded eucalyptus and those luscious maroon peonies that only come out for a brief second in November! Laura & Trevor, we wish you many more cozy fall days together!  xoxoxo -whim

Boston Wedding Vendors Unite: The B List Recap!

What happens when you get 130 Boston wedding vendors together in one room?  A freaking rad party which left us with confetti in our hair for days.  The B List event on 2.24 was all about industry collaboration, meeting new industry friends, getting boozy with old ones and really just breaking down old and stuffy walls in the event biz. No kickbacks, no cliques, just a lot of creativity in one room. We want to thank every single person that came out to hang with us and the sponsors who made the night magical. It was a blast, with a capital B.

Why did we create and host #theBList? Because we believe the best events come from creativity and collaboration, and we want to encourage more of it in New England. As wedding vendors, our only job is to create kick-ass events. Which means, we want a team behind the event that feeds off creativity, not credit. A team that works well with each other naturally. And an experienced team that is willing to push the envelope to make some magic. And that is exactly what our clients want for their events too.  So we pulled together some really awesome vendors, asked them to be a part, and then just let them run with their ideas, no major specifics provided (other than an obvious color scheme and overall vibe). Here’s what came out of letting some very talented people simply do what they do best.

ps. the amazing creative team is listed after these sweet pics from Alexandra Roberts Photography. We cannot wait until next year!

Elegant Marblehead Wedding: Brooke & Sam

We love when a bride comes in for the first time and she is genuinely thrilled to talk about her wedding, instead of stressed. That was exactly what is was like with Brooke, and her Marblehead wedding. We enjoyed a glass of bubbly and chatted about blooms. We still remember her saying “OMG! This is so fun! I get to sip champagne and talk about flowers?!” Totally the attitude we adore. Brooke and Sam had an elegant seaside wedding at Corinthian Yacht Club in Marblehead, and their great attitudes are just exuding! For flowers, she loved seasonal greens like seeded eucalyptus, combined with blush and cream flowers like garden roses, dahlias, lisianthus and astilbe, for a windswept oceanside vibe, without being “nautical.” We added depth to the centerpieces by offering three types: our silver lanterns with bud vases, hurricane candles with greens, and a mercury glass bowl filled with overflowing seasonal flowers.  This created a less uniform look, while still being cohesive. So without further ado, enjoy these stunning shots from White Loft Studio.  Congrats Brooke and Sam, may your new life together be full of bubbly and flowers!!

ps. We are in LOVE with her gown,  Amy Kuschel’s “Lennon” available at Flair Boston!)

Why Choosing Wedding Flowers Should Never be Stressful
boston wedding flowers

We don’t believe in making you choose your wedding flowers from a book.  Most of our clients would have no idea where to begin! After 10 years in the floral industry, Moira found that getting to know couples personally is the best way to design their perfect wedding floral concept. Which is how she came up with her unique philosophy: take couples to the Boston Flower Exchange and show them the beautiful variety Mother Nature has to offer!  A market visit is an awesome way to hone in on couples’ unique tastes. Plus it’s a blast for moms or bridesmaids, too. Here’s a bit from Moira about why a market visit with her can make a major difference in your wedding design:

Make a Connection.  A market visit allows me a second opportunity to connect with the couple and really learn who they are, their individual style and what they love.

Open Your Mind. Magazines or Pinterest only show a fraction of available flowers. Unless you have an uncommon interest in flowers, most couples have no idea what flowers are in season. A market visit allows you to see everything available in season and develop a new appreciation for flowers. Many brides are blown away by what they see. You’ll find textures and flowers you never knew existed.  Think pineapples, fiddle heads or pomegranates!

Capture Your Spirit. By hand selecting your favorite flowers –  from classic to unique – your wedding flowers will completely capture your spirit. Custom tailored to you. No other wedding will look quite like it.

Collaborate.  Our trip to the market becomes a collaboration between you and I. You get a say in your flowers. And if a flower you love is too expensive for every centerpiece, I am happy to sneak a few into some show stopping places- your bouquet or the photographer’s favorite spots.

Prepare for the Unexpected. Because Mother Nature loves to change, it’s possible a bad week for flowers can happen.  A few years ago, a volcano erupted in Iceland and temporarily suspended the delivery of flowers to the US. I almost did not get the flowers I ordered. By going to the market and learning your individual taste, I feel confident that if mother nature doesn’t cooperate, I can pick a second choice you’ll equally adore.

Personally, I love going to the market. I try to lose myself in the flowers and want them to reflect the couple. By going to the market, I have a fantastic understanding of what the couple really likes. I feel excited and inspired to create their dream, because I see it clearly!  Plus, going to the market with couples takes me out of my comfort zone and helps me see flowers with new eyes. I look for the beauty the client sees. I now have favorite flowers that I didn’t even like 5 years ago. Because of that,  I am constantly growing, changing, and developing as a designer.  My clients help me become much more open minded and keep me on my toes: challenged and inspired.   -M

Of course, not every couple lives in Boston, so a Pinterest page will do just fine for Moira if a visit cannot happen. But if you have the opportunity to do it, we guarantee you’ll feel alive, inspired and confident in the beauty of your big day.

Flower Market Visits are included in Signature Seasonal + Custom Packages and can be added to any Classic Package.

Boston Engagement Shoot Inspiration

We know many of you 2016/2017 brides are currently spending the last bits of winter dreaming up ideas for your spring engagement session. So we had to share this garden inspired beauty from Deborah Zoe Photography.  The couple, Liz & Andy, had an intimate garden picnic in the exact spot where Andy proposed. (Oh, learn about his awesome surprise proposal here!) A landscaper, Andy had a big appreciation for greenery, plants and florals, so when Deb asked us to make bouquets and pretty floral accents for this session, we jumped on it.  Moira filled bouquets with fern, helleborus, garden roses and jasmine to create a wild and overflowing garden-picked look. And literally, how amazing does it all look with Liz’s dress? We loved the session so much that it begged us to ask the question, shouldn’t everyone have flowers for their e-session? 😉 Enjoy!
