Rockport Wedding: Alex & Christina

We had the pleasure of being part of Alex + Christina’s wedding day this past summer at the Windhover Center for Performing Arts.  Alex and Christina met in the restaurant business, and wanted to bring a sense of hospitality into their big day.  They incorporated both their backgrounds to create a perfect balance of New England + Southern cuisine!  We loved their relaxed vibe and their clear sense of vision for creating a simple day with friends and family.  Alex and Christina  chose our Magic Details package. Moira filled her bouquet with her favorites; billy balls, hydrangea, roses, ranunculus, dahlias, and greens.  The color palette was light yellow, pink, white, and green. Brianna Cox did an amazing job at capturing their special day. P.S., take a peak at her blush wedding dress, we love it!

Congratulations Alex + Christina!

Find your Inspiration: Vibrant Handmade Pillow
Inspiration can strike at anytime! It could be an amazingly vibrant wallpaper or maybe even an heirloom like a pillow your great grandmother crocheted. Whatever may strike your wedding fancy, roll with it!

{The Whimens Inspiration}: A beautifully vibrant handmade pillow (or cushion if you’re from England)
{Colors}: Pink, Red, Orange, Yellow- Warm Tones.
{Tablescape}: We suggest keeping elements of the table (like the tablecloth, plates and utensils) simple and clean in tones of white or cream. Then you can bring in the pops of colors into the napkins and centerpieces so that the overall look isn’t drenched in color.

{Florals}: Use simple apothecary jars with various brightly colored flowers. Let the flowers do all the work when it comes to color. I mean, seriously, just look at these colors! It’s like they got all dressed up for this occasion and boy, do we appreciate it.

{Favors}: Keeping the handcrafted theme and inspiration in mind the couple had a friend make their own pale ale! We love when a couple enjoys seriously awesome craft beer especially when they give it as favors.

{Details}: If you have been sitting here wondering why the bride in this collage looks super familiar, it could be because it’s our one and only Natalie Pinney! And if you know Natalie, you understand her choice in bright colors and details! Her vibrant personality definitely comes though in all of her wedding photos (taken by the amazing Katie Noble). A little suggestion from the bride regarding the details of your wedding is to make sure that you let your photographer know that detail shots are important to you. They sure were important to Natalie and it shows!

Throwback Thursday: Erin & Darrick’s Cambridge Wedding

Happy throw back thursday! This week we are featuring Erin + Darrick!  We absolutely adored their bubbly personalities and their love for flowers, especially peonies! When they were dating, Darrick would bring Erin a bouquet of flowers every Friday- talk about swoon! Once we found out Darrick’s grandmother also grew peonies, we knew this was going to be a fabulous wedding. Not only were there peonies in Erin’s bridal bouquet, but each guest took home a small bouquet of flowers as favors, as well! We absolutely adored the bright pink tones and lush flowers Erin loved on her flower market visit. They brought the venue Tupelo to life.  Below are some of our favs of their big day! A special thanks to Parker Digital Imaging for capturing their big day!

May and Peter’s Cambridge Wedding: Oleana + MIT Chapel

What do you get when you merge neutral colors, an organic style, pops of soft garden colors and place them in two beautiful venues? May and Peter’s wedding at the MIT Chapel and Oleana in Cambridge! The couple wanted their flowers not to feel too formal, but to have a natural feel accentuated with blues, corals, and pinks. First Mate Photography captured these elements perfectly! One of our favorite details of the day was the kumquats hidden among the reception centerpieces!

We just adore this wedding filled with lots of beautiful colors, seasonal flowers (ahh, those peonies!), warm garden elements and love. Thank you for letting Whim be a part of your big day, May and Peter!

Missy + Matt’s Wedding at the Westford Regency

Missy and Matt are such a great couple. We met with them on a super snowy day back in March at a cozy restaurant in Cambridge to chat about their September wedding. Missy is charismatic and funny…Matt is one of those quiet guys who throws a one liner into the conversation that leaves everyone in stitches.  We loved their energy immediately.

For the wedding decor, they liked the idea of bringing some color to the all white tent at the Westford Regency...and although Missy never fashioned herself a “pink” girl, she ended up adoring pink garden roses, pink hydrangea, pink dahlias and daisies! She wanted the space to be soft and romantic..but most of all.. they wanted their wedding to be laid back and FUN. and I can see why. In addition to their sweet candy bar, hilarious tattoos of themselves and a “Fish for a Favor” station (Matt’s an avid fisherman!), these two barely moved off the dance floor at their reception! And neither did their guests! We were lucky enough to do the floral design and day of coordination, so we stayed for all the fun!At one point, I remember looking over at Matt playing the air guitar and Missy jumping around, spinning her dress to the music…and I thought..this is love. <3

Congrats Missy + Matt. We love you! Check out these beautiful shots from Summer Street Photography:

Michelle + Dan’s Wedding at the Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center

We first talked to Michelle on the phone early last year (when Whim was a wee baby!) from her new home in Tennessee. Phone calls are always interesting in the flower business because flowers are so personal…and we always try to meet our clients in person before their big day.  We liked Michelle instantly over the phone though, learning she was Cambridge native and graphic designer. Michelle and Dan’s big day was planned for early June, at the Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center...and yay! she was using one of our favorite photographers Amie Fedora!  We decided on simple calla lilies and hydrangea to match her navy color scheme. But the real fun came when Michelle landed in Cambridge two weeks before the big day…and we took her to the flower market!  We instantly knew this girl had style!  The vision changed a bit, especially when she mentioned some periwinkle, but we happily kept the budget the same and added some pops of color and texture. Moira even found hydrangea called “You and Me Together”. (Seriously, that was the flower’s name! Can you say adorable?!)

When we walked into her bridal suite on the big day, she gave us a group hug (we love hugsss!). And we were happy.

A huge congrats to Michelle & Dan! A lifetime of hugs to you both!

Twofer Tuesday: Cupcakes & wedding videos. Is there anything sweeter?

When we find a local artist or designer we love, we get a little obsessed. 😉  And on this Tuesday, we’re feeling lots of love!

Hannah Persson is one of our favorite photographers. We fell in love with her super energetic personality, her hip photography style and her SWEET wedding music videos, which will surely have you shedding tears of joy for couples you don’t even know.  (Seriously, we spent an entire night watching the videos, drinking wine and wishing we were partying with the bride and groom-  don’t judge!). This lady has some serious talent, and we are  psyched to work with her for a second time this upcoming summer in Vermont!

If that’s not sweet enough, we have to highlight our dear friend and cupcake chef Victoria over at Cakeology.  Victoria and I met a few years ago and she’s fantastic!  This year, I was psyched to see her win the Food Network’s Cupcake Wars! With her new storefront in downtown Boston, she’s rocking it with unique flavors like Fluffernutter, Almond Joy, and Chocolate Chip Pancake.  Cupcake snobs take note: these cupcakes are amazing and will NOT disappoint.  Plus, Cakeology delivers – in a bright yellow truck with Bruce the Panda on the side!  Love it!  Brides to be, try for yourself.
