At Whim, there’s never a dull moment! We recently went to a wedding in a gallery, where each guest was asked to bring a piece of art to decorate the space. This made for a super cool conversations starter! Then today, after brainstorming with one of our lovely brides, who just happens to be an artist, our creativity went through the roof! We love art. We love working with artists. We love designing artful spaces. And in fact, the whole reason we started Whim was to collaborate with local artists and create the most unique, personal and beautiful events we could possibly create. Cookie-cutter wedding days are over (that is, unless you are using cookie cutters in some cool way – a hanging mobile perhaps?). So today, we’re getting artsy.. with some colorful wedding ideas inspired by our favorite artist tool.. the good old fashioned Crayon Box. =)

Adore this RSVP…”The favor of your creative reply is requested”…Guests receive a blank RSVP card, and they get to draw you a picture. Display these cards at the wedding or rehearsal dinner and guests will get a kick out of them:

When we find a local artist or designer we love, we get a little obsessed. And on this Tuesday, we’re feeling lots of love!

Hannah Persson is one of our favorite photographers. We fell in love with her super energetic personality, her hip photography style and her SWEET wedding music videos, which will surely have you shedding tears of joy for couples you don’t even know. (Seriously, we spent an entire night watching the videos, drinking wine and wishing we were partying with the bride and groom- don’t judge!). Kate & Trevor’s Wedding at the Overbrook House

Here are a few things that are beyond awesome about Kate and Trevor. First, the couple are both chefs in New England and spent the summer cooking on Nantucket. Secondly, they actually prepared all of the delicious food for their own wedding (as if they didn’t have enough to think about!) with local ingredients from their favorite local vendors . And thirdly, they had their yoga instructor marry them. Totally. freaking. cool. Oh and did we mention they got married at one of our favorite venues on the planet, the Overbrook House in Buzzards Bay? We can’t think of anything better than a gorgeous menu and a gorgeous venue! To quote their photographer, Geneve Rege, may this happy couple make many yummy meals together!

Moira is one of Kate’s best friends, so she was honored to do the floral design for Kate & Trevor’s big day..check it out..

Whim Events Featured on Style Me Pretty Massachusetts! We’re blushing!

We were beyond excited to get the news that Style Me Pretty Massachusetts (SMP) wanted to feature Whim’s very own Somerville wedding on their blog! And as many of you know, this wedding has a special place in our hearts…. that’s because it’s my own wedding! Yes, I’ve planned many wedding and events in my day, but honestly, nothing is quite as crazy as planning your own. There was no question in my mind that Moira was going to design my flowers. And in this case, I speak as a client and not as Whim, when I say, WOW. When we walked into our wedding venue and saw beautiful garden flowers all over the room, my husband and I were in awe. It was almost as if Moira had read my mind, got into my brain and handpicked every single flower I loved. She transformed this quirky bowling alley space into something brighter and more beautiful than I could have ever imagined. I will never forget that. And I am thankful every single day for her awesomeness and intuitive sense of style and design at Whim.

Thank you to SMP, Katie Noble Photography (seriously amazing), my dear friend Jen O’Donnell at Cut Paste Love, Jen L. for your crafty sense and DOC, Flatbread, Cordis Confections and our family and friends who made our day unforgettable. We are enamored with you all!

Martha + Steven: Sneak Peeks! A Rustic + Earthy Wedding at the Webb Barn

When we first met Martha to discuss wedding flowers, we instantly fell in love with her friendly, relaxed vibe and her excitement to marry Steven in the quaint town of Wethersfield, CT. Her idea was to keep the flowers earthy and natural, with hints of blue and green Celtic elements. We loved that Martha had already grown her own potted plant centerpieces in preparation for the big day. And when we started discussing sprays of rosemary & lavender for additional decor, she squealed with delight! But what we really adored about Martha was her sincere happiness and her natural approach to the wedding celebration. She was happy to leave the floral details up to Moira and Mother Nature. So, when we delivered the flowers on her beautiful September wedding day and she cried tears of joy, that just made our hearts melt even more! Congrats to the happy couple!

Jori & Sean’s Somerville Wedding: Hurricane Irene Meets Her Match!

Looking at these photos, you would never guess that Jori and Sean’s colorful nuptials happened during the downpours of Hurricane Irene. But that didn’t stop this awesome couple and their guests from having a blast! The couple’s quirky and casual style made for a super fun and super relaxed day for everyone involved. Jori and Sean are all about keeping it local, so it made perfect sense for them to have their wedding reception at Bloc 11 in Somerville, steps from their Union Square home. And when we heard that Redbones BBQ was catering, we knew it was our kind of party! Moira arranged the flowers and I was the day of coordinator, and we were thrilled to be involved! We adored the DIY elements the bride’s mother created; from gingham table squares and tea lights, to personalized wine charm favors. The bride’s father married the couple, the groom’s sister sang a heartfelt song at the ceremony, and each family member blessed the rings with warm wishes for the couple. We don’t care what the weatherman said, it really was a beautiful day.

New England Floral Designer, Moira Thompson, Designs Wedding Set for New Movie ” What’s Your Number?”

Whim is giddy with excitement! It’s not everyday that one of our brides is an actual movie star… Ok, so Anna Faris didn’t REALLY get married here in New England, but we designed her dream wedding… or atleast her character’s dream wedding, anyway! Whim’s very own floral designer, Moira Thompson, designed the wedding scenes in 20th Century Fox’s new movie “What’s Your Number”, starring Anna Faris and Chris Evans.
